Telangana’ ‘largesse’ challenged
Plea on out of turn Cabinet Rank admitted
The Hyderabad High Court on Monday admitted a petition questioning the action of Telangana government in ‘indiscriminately’ conferring the status of “cabinet rank” to persons, who were appointed as advisors, special representatives of the government and others.
Gutha Sukender Reddy, Nalgonda Congress MP, moved the plea stating that the government’s decision to confer cabinet rank status with perks will not only mean financial burden to the state exchequer but will result in belittling the very expression since it originally applies only to the ministers of the state who are supposed to advise the Governor.
The petitioner challenged the cabinet ranks accorded to R. Vidyasagar Rao, A.K. Goel, A. Ramalakshman, B.V. Papa Rao, K.V. Ramanachary, G.R. Reddy, advisors of the government and S. Venugopalachary, Ramachandrudu Tejavath, K.M. Sahni, special representatives to the state in New Delhi, Pervaram Ramulu, chairman of Telangana Tourism Corporation Limited, Pidamarthi Ravi as chairman of Telangana SC and STs co-operative development corporation limited, Singireddy Niranjan Reddy vice-chairman of Telangana state planning board, and others.
HC: Minorities being deprived
On minority colleges admitting minority students, the Hyderabad High Court on Monday ordered the Khader Memorial Educational Society of Nalgonda district to place the details of students who have been admitted in the college in the past five years and also give an undertaking that it will give admission to 80 per cent minority students.
A division bench comprising of Acting Chief Justice Dilip Bhosale and Justice S.V. Bhatt was dealing with a petition by the Society seeking a direction to the JNTU, Hyderabad to grant affiliation to the engineering college, which is under its management.
The bench pointed out that many minority institutions in the state have become money making institutions, despite enjoying several benefits from the government in the name of minority institutions; they have been depriving seats to the minorities.
The petitioner said that the JNTU has denied affiliation to the college on the ground of not having required faculty.
Illegal layouts: HC raps HMDA
The Hyderabad High Court on Monday told the HMDA to remove structures in unauthorised layouts in Nadergul of the city.
A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Dilip B. Bhosale and Justice S.V. Bhatt was dealing with a PIL by Rajamani and G. Venkat Reddy, residents of Nadergul challenging the action of the HMDA authorities in allowing various real estate companies to carry out constructions in unauthorised layouts in and around Nadergul.
The petitioners brought to the notice of the court that several real estate firms have been developing the layouts without HMDA approval and the authorities were allowing construction against norms.
