Telangana Congress top guns feel heat
Hyderabad: The Indiramma housing scam during the Congress regime from 2004-14 in undivided AP has taken a curious turn with preliminary investigations done by the CID finding grave irregularities in constituencies held by Congress Legislature Party leader K. Jana Reddy, state Congress chief Uttam Kumar Reddy, Gadwal legislator D.K. Aruna, the then Manthani MLA D. Sridhar Babu besides Kodangal Telugu Desam legislator A. Revanth Reddy.
The CID probe was ordered by Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao soon after assuming office in June 2014. While the government is getting ready to book criminal cases against officials for their role in clearing bills for non-existent houses, the staff is demanding cases against politicians first since they exerted pressure on them to clear the bills.
The names found in CID’s interim report will be revealed during the Assembly session.
“The government has received an interim report from the CID on the housing scam. The irregularities were detected in constituencies held by prominent Congress and TD leaders. We will disclose the details in the ensuing Assembly session. We will take feedback from all the parties before proceeding further on recovering the funds besides booking cases," said housing minister A. Indrakaran Reddy.
“Employees had no role in selecting the beneficiaries. But the CID police has summoned only employees for inquiry. There are attempts to make employees the scapegoats. This is not acceptable. The role of politicians should also be inquired into," said Mr C. Kondaiah of the TS Housing Corporation Employees JAC.
The CID conducted preliminary investigations in only 18 Assembly constituencies, covering just 36 villages in all TS districts barring Hyderabad, due to staff and time constraints.
It found that Rs 250 crore had been siphoned off in just 18 constituencies and the total amount from the scam was likely to run into thousands of crores, if all constituencies are covered.
