IAS officer’s case not linked to cricket betting: Karnataka Lokayukta police
BENGALURU: The Lokayukta police probing the case related to the seizure of crores of rupees from a flat, purportedly belonging to senior IAS officer Kapil Mohan, have revealed that the case has nothing to with cricket betting. However, it is said that the case would definitely spell trouble to the officer.
In August, the CID sleuths, who are investigating the cricket betting case, had raided a flat in Golden Grand Apartment in Yashwantpur. The officials were shocked to found Rs 4.37 crore in cash, 2.5 kg gold jewellery and diamonds. Later, it was revealed that the flat was registered in the name of PSK Finance Solutions Private Ltd, which is run by the immediate family members of Kapil Mohan, currently Principal Secretary of the Youth Empowerment and Sports department.
The CID sleuths had said the raid was conducted after Arjun and Heerachand, who were arrested by the CID sleuths in connection with the betting case, revealed that the cash was stashed in an apartment in Yeshwantpur.
The case was later referred to the Lokayuka police for investigations. The sleuths of the anti-corruption agency had raided several places including the residence of the officer in HSR Layout. Further, the police had also carried out search in the houses belonging to the officer and his family members in Noida.
After verification of documents seized and evidences collected during the course of probe, the Lokayukta police are convinced that the official has nothing to do with cricket betting, but have gathered clinching evidence that would put the official in trouble. “We are investigating the case under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The probe so far has revealed that the official had assets disproportionate to his known sources of income,” a senior police official in the Lokayukta said.
“Though we are convinced that the case is not connected to cricket betting, it does not mean relief for the official. In fact, the evidences we are gathering will put him in more trouble. Various angles, including the businesses run by his family members, are being probed and the investigation is on the right track,” the official added.
