Vellapally may announce party on December 5
Thiruvananthapuram: A new political party floated by the SNDP Yogam may take birth at Shang-humugham here where the Yogam’s Kerala Samrakshana Yatra against political evils concludes on December 5. Yogam general secretary Vellapally Natesan and his son and vice- president Tushar Vellapally are expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday to discuss a tie-up with the BJP in the state.
Mr. Vellapally told DC that he along with Mr Tushar and Subhash Vasu, Mavelikara SNDP union president, will meet the PM at 11 am. “We will invite the PM for the unveiling of R. Sankar’s statue at Kollam,” he said.
They have already held talks with senior RSS leaders as well as with BJP organisational general secretary Ram Lal. Mr Vellapally had met VHP international working president Pravin Togadia and international working president of Vishwa Hindu Parishad Ashok Kumar Singhal during Mata Amrithananda Mayi’s 62nd birthday celebrations in Kollam on Sunday. The alliance has the ‘blessings’ of Mata as well. The national BJP leadership and the Yogam have held three rounds of talks. But the final go-ahead has to come from Mr Modi as the state leadership is not very enthusiastic about the tie-up, sources said. “Mr. Natesan is eyeing a key position for his son, Tushar. But state president V. Muraleedharan and one of his supporters, K. Surendran, general secretary, are pulling the strings backwards, though both of them belong to the Ezhava community,” said a BJP leader. The national BJP leadership hopes to get the maximum number of seats in the local body elections. If the alliance with the Yogam does not work, the BJP would suffer a backlash in the local bodies and the Assembly elections. “Muraleedharan and Surendran are greedy for power,” said a source.
