Project Aditi launched in Andhra Pradesh
Project is a platform on which grievances can be lodged
Visakhapatnam: The family members of six- year-old Aditi, who was sucked into a stormwater drain and drowned in the sea, have decided to launch a project to highlight civic issues. Project Aditi will be a digital platform on which citizens may lodge grievances and offer suggestions. It would also be a mobile app, said Aditi’s uncle Rahul Raghavendra. “We would wish that Aditi would be the last child to die of criminal negligence and we urge all citizens to join in the activism,” he said.
On the Facebook community page ‘Finding Aditi — Missing from Visakhapat-nam since 24th Sep”, Ragh-avendra wrote, “This page will not become inactive until every single child's life in the city, state and the country is well secured Th-ere’s no purpose in our exi-stence and vision when we cannot protect our own children.” He wrote: “I love you Aditi and I see you in every single child. But from this time on, I’ll hopefully not fail in protecting the next one. Rest in peace in much safer hands.”
Facebook user Anil Kumar posted: “We are sorry chitti thalli we couldn’t save you. It is not one’s negligence. we all are completely responsible for what happened. Hope this kind of cases never repeat again.... RIP Aditi. We miss u, we miss ur smile, u will live in our hearts forever.” The idea of Project Aiditi got positive response from several users. One of them, Srivani Mukkamala Rahul, wrote: “If in any way I can be a change agent, please reach out to me....we are all with you at this moment and forever.”
Vizagites bid tearful adieu to 6-year-old:
Hundreds of people from all parts of the city and neighbouring districts were present at the funeral of six-year-old girl C. Sai Lavanya Aditi in Vizag on Friday. People lined up either side of the road in front of Aditi’s house in Seethammandhra and paid homage with folded hands, many with tears in their eyes.
The body was totally covered with a white cloth as it was brought from KG Hospital after a post-mortem. It was then taken to the crematorium at KRM Colony on Friday afternoon, again accompanied by several people, many of them strangers. “We are neither relati-ves nor friends of the girl’s family,” said G. Srini-vas of HB Colony. “We joined in the funeral procession to express our deep sadness at the unnatural death of this little girl,” he added.
As previously reported, Aditi was washed in a storm water drain in the HB Colony area on Septe-mber 24 evening. Her body was found on a beach 45 km away in Bhogapuram area on the evening of October 1.
Girl’s dad: No parent should face this grief
Aditi’s 70-year-old grandmother, Ms C. Seethamma, who was taken to hospital on Thursday night after she suffered a heart attack after hearing the news about Aditi, is in critical condition. Aditi’s father C. Srinivas said that he hoped no other parent would have to carry a burden for so many days as he had. He said that it had taken an extraordinarily long time to recover his child and hoped that such an event would not occur again in Vizag.
Aditi's family had nursed hope that she would be found alive and had announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for information on her whereabouts. The GVMC has come under pressure after the incident to develop the storm water drains in a scientific manner and also demolish the illegal establishments on the drains, said Visakha North MLA P. Vishnu Kumar Raju. He said the GVMC must start a special drive to identify and demolish encroachments. The family members of Aditi remain in shock and distress after the search for the girl ended with the discovery of her body. Missing since September 24, the girl was found dead on October 1.
