Master plan for Beypore Port by November first week
KOZHIKODE: The master plan for the comprehensive development of Beypore port will be released in the first week of November.
The project is meant to raise the port to international standards, expand the export sector and build up the centre as one of Malabar’s major passenger terminals.
The project will also connect all the coastal shipping zones of the state, including Vizhinjam, Kochi, Azheekkal, Kollam and Ponnani, with Beypore port to replace rail and road transport systems.
According to port officer captain Ashwin Prathap, the majority of the small-scale and large-scale ports in the state lack basic facilities.
Beypore is hit by space constraints which may be solved with its expansion plans. The shipping lanes will be expanded and the wharfs will be lengthened.
Meetings have been held with experts of shipping transportation and trade- commerce sector on the master plan. The first phase includes the expansion of the goods export and shipping transportation facility connecting Lakshadweep.
According to the authorities, the project will start soon after the acquisition of the 3.78 acres of land by Beypore Kovilakam and completing the lease procedure of the land of SILK.
