Chandrasekhar Rao to decide on splitting JNTU
Proposals to split JNTU Hyderabad is being seriously considered by the govt
Hyderabad: Proposals to split JNTU Hyderabad is being seriously considered by the government though opinion on the way of splitting is divided. Upgradation of the JNTU constituent college at Jagityal has been a long pending demand but government sources said that a proposal to simply split the varsity into JNTU East and JNTU West is also being considered.
TRS Karimnagar MP B. Vinod Kumar had told the CM that the JNTU constituent college in Jagityal in Karimnagar district should be upgraded to a university. JNTU Hyderabad is stressed because of the sheer number of engineering colleges affiliated to it. This year about 225 engineering colleges were affiliated to it. “There is a very good campus in Jagityal with all infrastructure. About 30 to 40 per cent of buildings on the campus are unused.
The CM should upgrade it because he wants quality engineering education,” Vinod Kumar said. Private engineering colleges are also supporting the move. The new university will cater to engineering colleges in the northern districts other than Hyderabad and RR. However, senior officials said that upgrading Jagityal college to a university may not be a good idea. “If the Jagityal college is converted into a university, the JNTU brand may not be carried to it. Instead, JNTU can be divided into East and West. Both will be in Hyderabad and the brand will trickle to both varsities,” an official said.
However, a final decision has not been taken and is expected to be taken by the Chief Minister. Government officials also say that Vinod Kumar is lobbying for Jagityal college upgradation as it will politically help him in Karimnagar district.
