Tamilisai Soundararajan takes potshots at Vaiko’s People’s Welfare Front
Chennai: BJP leader and state president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan took potshots at her party’s former ally and MDMK chief Vaiko’s attempts to form a new front in Tamil Nadu viz. the People’s Welfare Front.
“We will have to see if this will have the people’s support,” was her spontaneous reaction when reporters sought for her comments on the efforts to forge a new electoral alliance in the state for the Assembly elections next year.
“This (experiment) would not sustain… one after the other the constituents will leave,” Dr Tamilisai said. It may be recalled that Mr Vaiko had quit the NDA in December 2014 accusing the BJP government at the Centre of acting against Tamils and betraying the people of the state. PMK is another constituent that has not been supportive of the saffron party.
Asserting that the BJP-led NDA would play a bigger role in terms of ushering in change in Tamil Nadu post Assembly elections, she said that her party was actively engaged in efforts to strengthen the NDA in order to emerge as viable alternative to the Dravidian majors. “It is only the NDA that can bring change in the state and our party is for ensuring good governance,” Dr Tamilisai added. She also took strong exception to the PMK “unilaterally” announcing its Chief Ministerial candidate and said this was against the “coalition dharma.”
