Aishwarya’s radical style

Designers tell us more about Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s amazing white fluid outfit

While her comeback film Jazbaa might not have raked in the moolah in its opening weekend, her sartorial sense has become the talking point — again! Clad in a white Monisha Jaisingh floor-length kurti dress, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan looked stunning at the premiere of Jazbaa. Instead of opting for a form-fitting dress, Aishwarya went for a fluid outfit and rounded off her look with a sleek ponytail — a hybrid kaftan maybe? Designer Anupama Dayal says, “It’s nice that she’s trying to be different. It’s not even such a big risk. As she’s growing older, she’s dressing for that target of women.”

While it was an unusual choice for a formal event, the fashion police gave her a huge thumbs up. However, some are still undecided about this look as it is holiday wear.

Designer Nabonil from the brand Dev R Nil says, “It’s a versatile option and has quite an international appeal, with WGSN even doing a trend story on how mass trends are back. Bordering on the semi-formal to formal, it’s apt for holiday dressing. Statement jewellery and wedges would work for events and if you pair your outfit with some stunning shoes, it could be an interesting choice for a formal set-up.”

Meanwhile, designer Nachiket Barve feels that if you have the confidence to pull it off, then any setting would be okay. “But it would work best for a poolside party or a barbecue night. However, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea as it’s more suitable for tall and slim people. Otherwise, people may think you forgot to wear your pants.”

As these outfits are very comfortable, it’s become the go-to choice for women who want to look chic and cool. “With global warming, international designers are looking at Southeast Asia for inspiration. Freshness is the key so you can opt for fresh flowers or a tiara. But I advise 25-plus girls to buy such outfits in a luxurious fabric since it outlines your shape,” Anupama says.
