Pinarayi Vijayan seeks probe into Swami’s death
KANNUR: CPM politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan has called for a reinvestigation into the murder of Swami Saswathikananda in the wake of the recent revelation by Biju Ramesh.
Speaking at the ‘meet the press’ programme at Kannur press club, Pinarayi added that from the beginning, there were several doubts regarding the death.
“Swami Saswathikananda is said to be a good swimmer and he was used to take a bath in the river. The investigation team decided to subject a person to narco analysis test. But the person approached Supreme Court and got a favourable verdict. How could a low-income man go to the apex court and win the case? There are many unanswered questions like this,” Pinarayi pointed.
He defended the party decision to field Karayi Rajan and Karayi Chandrasekharan as candidates. “They are mere accused. An accused has all the rights of an innocent person until the court declares otherwise,” he said.
The CPM leader repeated the allegation that Chief Minister Oomman Chandy had a decisive role in the forging of the BJP-SNDP alliance. To a query, Pinarayi said that it was unfortunate writer P. Valsala reacted against litterateurs who had quit Kendra Sahitya Akademi positions.
