‘Raitha Dasara’ to prevent suicides
Nanjangud: Turning the usual concept of a fashion show on its head, a bevy of women sashayed down the ramp in some unusual costumes.
They were farm women and the clothes they wore were their everyday attire!
The ‘Raitha Dasara’ of Nanjangud taluk held at Srikanteswara Rangamandira of Nanjangud on Friday included a fashion show of farm women who celebrated their rural life, livelihood with the costumes they wear for their day to day activities.
It was not just the women who took part, but children of farmers from villages of the taluk, who dressed up as young brides and groom, depicting the evils of child marriage using the roles of an anganwadi teacher, police, advocate and the tahsildar.
These kids even urged their parents not to end their lives. These were some of the many events held on the concluding day at Nanjangud taluk, as part of four day Dasara held at all taluk centres to cheer them at the situation of distress and prevent them from committing suicides.
It was an opportunity for 14 progressive farmers and farmers’ leaders among whom some of them shared their experiences among fellow farmer brethren and also discussed and shared their problems with agricultural scientists.
