Pro-Khalistan, pro-Pakistan slogans chanted at Sikhs' protest in Baramulla

The protest was against reported desecration of Sikhs' holy book in Punjab

Srinagar: Pro-Khalistan and pro-Pakistan slogans were chanted at a protest of Sikhs held in Jammu and Kashmir’s north-western town of Baramulla on Sunday against reported desecration of their holy book in neighbouring Punjab.

Sikh exasperated by the alleged desecration of the Guru Granth Sahib in some parts of Punjab marched along the streets of Baramulla chanting “Punjab banega Khalistan; Kashmir banega Pakistan.” They were also heard yelling “Pakistan Zindabad” and “Modi chor hai.”

The community leaders while speaking to reporters on the occasion said that the Sikhs will not tolerate desecration of their holy book and “will go to any extent to protect our holy scriptures, traditions and way of life.” They added that whosoever is responsible for the desecration of the Guru Granth Sahib in Punjab areas “must be identified, exposed and given exemplary punishments for hurling the religious sentiments of billions of Sikhs.”

The Valley’s Sikhs had held a protest demonstration against the Punjab incidents also at Srinagar’s Mushtaq Press Enclave earlier on Saturday.
