Favourite cuisine: Parsi
I am a hardcore foodie but a cuisine that has to be my favourite is undoubtedly Parsi. Britannia & Co., the 92-year-old restaurant in South Mumbai, is one of the best restaurants that dishes out authentic Parsi food. I love the fact that it is old, so there is a sense of history and wonder attached to the restaurant. It’s heart-warming in a nostalgic way. Their berry pulao and caramel custard are to die for and the best I have ever eaten across the country.

Favourite Album: The Division Bell by Pink Floyd
When I was in Shri Ram College of Commerce at Delhi University, a friend introduced me to Pink Floyd, and that changed the way I perceived English music. Their album The Division Bell is something that I really, really loved. My first brush with English music happened only in college in the sense that previously I had only listened to pop music like Quit Playing Games and Summer of ’69, which summed up English music for me. Plus, I think the phase was such where I was still in college, reading Ayn Rand books and really wanting to explore alternate genres. I listen to completely different stuff today but if I could, I’d still listen to Wish You Were Here anytime.

Favourite TV show: The X-Files
One TV show that I took a liking to and remains my favourite is The X-Files, the American science fiction horror drama television series. The plot for every episode is engrossing and even makes you want to binge-watch! I decided to watch the series five-six years ago and since then, it has stayed my number one TV show. Now, I even have sets of DVDs for the series.

Favourite play: Fuerza bruta
If there’s one performance I could recommend, it has to be Fuerza Bruta that was created by Diqui James in 2005. Since then, it has travelled to Bogota, Queretaro, Miami, Chicago, Lisbon, Bilbao, Berlin and Edinburg. I witnessed this performance in 2008 in New York. These guys broke the rules with their show. There is absolutely no distinction between the stage and the audience. The way they play with space is something that hasn’t been experimented before. A completely non-verbal performance uses music, dance, acrobatics, aerial imagery and some awe-inspiring visual displays and set designs. Every show has been altered a little and you never know what’s going to happen next.

Favourite film: The Pursuit of Happyness
My favourite film has to be Notting Hill because it’s a beautiful, frothy, very British love story. But a film I would highly recommend to everyone is The Pursuit of Happyness. The film moved me to tears of sadness and then joy and has stayed with me ever since. It teaches one to never give up on one’s dreams, to always believe in yourself and not let others put you down. It is the ultimate story of hope. This dialogue — “Don’t ever let somebody tell you, you can’t do something. Not even me, alright? You got a dream, you gotta protect it.” — has always been one of my favourites.

Favourite book: Not Without My Daughter by Betty Mahmoody
If there’s one book I would recommend to anyone, it has to be Not Without My Daughter by Betty Mahmoody. The story talks about how American residents Betty and her daughter decide to visit her husband’s house in Iran. However, later, the husband holds the two confined in their family house. I picked the book five years ago and the story has stayed with me since then. I like how the author has been vocal about the torture she faced and she didn’t choose to be diplomatic about her treatment. It’s like you live her life through the book. It changed my outlook towards life. My books are nonsense compared to this one!
