Don’t rely on old question papers alone, read all chapters, class 10, 12 students told

Chennai: In an attempt to help class X and XII students score centum in board exams, the directorate of government examinations has issued a circular urging them to not only depend on previous years question papers.

Instead, it has suggested that students read all chapters in their books and understand the subject. Director of government examinations (DGE), D. Vasundhara Devi, in a circular sent to chief educational officers (CEO), district educational officers (DEO) and inspectors of matriculation schools (IMS) in the state said there exists a notion among students that by studying compilation of previous years question papers they could score centum in exam, instead of studying all chapters fully and understanding subjects well.

The DGE has asked heads of all schools to inform class X and XII students about the circular. The director also says that when questions are asked from textbooks instead of the previous year question papers, students become apprehensive.

To make students answer all questions with confidence and full understanding, the circular recommends students to read the concepts in the textbook fully. Commenting about the circular, Sami. Sathyamurthy, state president of Tamil Nadu High and Higher Secondary School Headmasters’ Association, said the DGE’s circular has rightly asked students to read textbooks fully as questions in the exam could be asked from any chapter in the textbook. “Teachers should also teach subjects completely and make students read the subjects fully to answer all questions with ease,” he added.
