India, Pakistan go overboard to ‘welcome’ Geeta back home

Five members of the Edhi Foundation who will accompany Geeta will be treated as state guests by India
New Delhi: Both India and Pakistan are pulling out all stops for the return of Geeta — the hearing and speech-impaired girl who has been living in Pakistan for over a decade after accidentally crossing the border — to India on Monday.
Five members of the Edhi Foundation who will accompany Geeta will be treated as state guests by India. External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj will hold a press conference on Monday afternoon at which Geeta will be present.
Not to be outdone, senior diplomats of the Pakistan High Commission will receive Geeta on arrival at the New Delhi IGI airport. Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit and his wife will also host Geeta and “members of the Edhi family” in the evening at the High Commission in New Delhi.
India will no doubt be hoping that its success in getting Geeta back to India will be greatly appreciated by people in India. According to reports, Geeta’s “family” is from Bihar, where elections are currently on.
