Tune in: Melody matters
His father (Nanda Kumar) was the arranger for legends like R.D. Burman , Salil Chaudhury and Satyajit Ray. So Tanishk Bagchi began doing the rounds of music studios very early on. And as he grew up, he knew his calling lay in being a music programmer and composer. With his Banno Tera Swagger from Tanu Weds Manu Returns going on to be an instant hit, Tanishk is looking forward to a successful innings in Bollywood. He chats with us about his musical influences:
The song on repeat on my iPod these days: Sam Smith’s Lay Me Down
If I had to put together a ‘soundtrack’ for my life, the five songs on it would be: Tum Jo Mil Gaye Ho; Lagi Tumse Man Ki Lagan; Lag Ja Galey Ke Phir Yeh; Phir Le Aya; Samander Me Kinara Tu — these describe my life. I think life is a romantic journey and it’s good to fill your life up with love .
What I listen to when:
I’m happy and upbeat: I Got A Feeling by Black Eyed Peas
I’m really low: I listen to an old song from the movie Hero, Lambi Judai
I’m working out: any EDM by David Guetta
I’d describe my taste in music as: Encompassing everything that has a good melody
My favourite time/way to listen to music during the day: While travelling or while driving. That’s the best time when you are just with your music.
If I could have one band in the world/a musician perform a private concert for me, it would have to be: Elvis for sure! Even though I know that’s impossible.
And the one live act I would love to see at least once in my lifetime: A.R. Rahman sir performing Tu Hi Re solo on the piano...
