Hyderabad: Dr Parthrajsinh N. Gohli from Gujarat decided to become an IPS officer hoping that he can help society by fighting crime. The best all-rounder IPS probationer, Dr Gohli says that while doctors cure bodily illnesses the police heals social ills.
The first woman IPS officer of Telangana, Ms Apoorva Rao, who quit TCS and cracked the civil services examination, says more women should join the TS police to make the state a better place.
141 IPS officers will pass out from the National Police Academy on Saturday.
Dr Gohli never had any serious thoughts about becoming a police officer till he met health commissioner Amar Singh Gill while interning at a hospital in Gujarat.
“After that I started realising how much difference I can make to society by joining an administrative service. I started preparing for civil service exams and cracked it in my second attempt,” he said.
Born in Begum Bazaar in the city and finishing her studies from a private engineering college, Ms Apoorva Rao joined TCS in Chennai. However, the high paying IT job did not give her satisfaction. “During an interaction with friends it struck me that police is what I should be going for,” Apoorva said.
The new batch at the NPA consists of 141 IPS officer trainees, 15 foreign officers, 28 lady officer trainees including two foreigners. Among the 15 foreign officers six are from the Royal Bhutan Police, five from the Nepal Police and four from Maldives.
