Political crisis rocks Arunachal Pradesh, MLAs' accuses CM of financial mismanagement

Four heavy-weight chairmen of corporations resigns, wants Nabam Tuki to be replaced

Guwahati: The dissension in ruling Congress party continues to rock the frontier state of Arunachal Pradesh with at least four chairmen appointed by chief minister Nabam Tuki resigning in protest against the growing corruption and nepotism in the government.

It is significant that more than 20 Congress legislators including some ministers are camping in New Delhi since the problem started about a fortnight back.

The Arunachal Pradesh Mineral Development and Trading Corporation Ltd chairman Techi Lama, the Hydro Power Development Corporation Chairman Tani Loffa and Monitoring and Vigilance Committee chairman Toko Anil are the three prominent political heavyweights who submitted their resignation from the office.

The chairmen in their resignation letter has accused the chief minister of allowing massive financial mismanagement and lack of leadership as the prime reason for their resignation from the post.

In a related development Congress MLA and chairman of Arunachal Pradesh Forest Corporation Limited Wanglam Sawin also resigned from the post while pointing out, “I have not been able to deliver my duty according to the aspiration of the corporation and its employees.” The legislator also regretted that there was none to listen to their contention to run the corporation effectively.

Accusing Tuki of encouraging nepotism and huge mismanagement of finance, the legislators are also angry over the threatening letters by some of the NGOs in media.

Pointing out that most of the key posts including his offices are manned by the close relatives of the chief minister, the legislators who do not want to be named said that lukewarm response of the Congress leadership in New Delhi was forcing them to approach the BJP to replace the chief minister. Refusing to divulge much on their strategy, the legislators camping in New Delhi said that they are determined to topple the present regime in the state.

Asserting that democracy was at stake in the frontier state of Arunachal Pradesh, the legislators pointed out as to how some of the legislators were forced to sign resignation letters by the chief minister in a dinner party hosted for MLAs.

The legislators also expressed surprise over the silence of AICC on the political crisis of the state. It is significant that Congress president Sonia Gandhi had summoned Tuki on Friday but legislators were completely in dark as to what transpired in the meeting.
