Minor’s marriage stopped in Hyderabad

The marriage was stopped with mutual consent

Hyderabad: State Commission for Protection of Child Rights officials and the police rescued a 16-year-old girl from child marriage in the LB Nagar area.

The groom, Nageshwar Rao, approached the victim for marriage through a mediator without knowing her age. The marriage was stopped with mutual consent.

The groom and the bride were counselled and let off. The victim, 16, lost both her parents a few years ago and was staying with her relatives in the Madhuranagar colony in Mansoorabad.

Nearly a month ago Nageshwar Rao, 25, a construction worker from Atmakur in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh approached the girl's relatives with a marriage proposal. He was not aware of the girl's age and decided to conduct the marriage on Saturday at the community hall in Madhuranagar.

After receiving information officials of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, cops, officials from revenue and ICDS rushed to the spot and stopped the marriage.

“We came to know the groom was not aware of the girl's age and they agreed to stop the marriage. With the help of ICDS we are arranging tailoring training for the girl,” said State Commission for Protection of Child Rights member Achyutha Rao.
