Let’s ride for change

A biker movement aims to bring together enthusiasts from all over the country

On Sunday morning, at Madhapur, a gathering of bikers from across the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, signed a pledge to do more than just “ride on the weekends”. The meet, organised by BikerIndia is aimed to unite different biking groups across India, and to encourage them to give back to nature and to donate time for charity, eventually creating “a positive image for bikers in society”.

Co-founder Tina Mohandas explains: “We have so many, many people taking out their bikes for a bit of fun over the weekend. They are part of various groups and are divided by brand allegiances and ride to mostly de-stress.”

But we are hoping to send out a message — ride for a purpose besides just fun. Visit the orphanages, the NGOs and bring help. That way, those weekend rides will have purpose.”
According to Tina and her BikerIndia colleague, Sachin Ramesh Shinde, several biking groups from Hyderabad were in attendance including The Bikernis, H.O.G. (Harley-Davidson Owners’ Group) Banjara, the Wanderers, Wind Chasers, India Bull Riders, Karizma Bikers Club, Dust Devils, Vulcanz, Punjab Enfield Generation, etc.

There are also plans to launch a nationwide leaderboard to highlight charity efforts by various bikers and groups. After the Hyderabad meet, BikerIndia plans to visit other cities and conclude the tour with a three-day motorcycling festival that will feature international Motocross and stunt legends, performances, exhibitions, as well as interactive competitions for bikers.
