Budding writers rejoice – NaNoWriMo is finally here. Here’s a quick explainer for those folks who are confused seeing #NaNoWriMo trending on their Twitter timelines. NaNoWriMo is short for National Novel Writing Month, which is an Internet-based creative writing project that takes place every year during the month of November.
Basically, it aims to encourage aspiring writers to finish the first draft of their novel before the
month ends. In fact the deadline ends at 11:59 pm sharp on November 30th. Pretty cool, isn’t it?
To participate, writers have to simply register on the NaNoWriMo website and give a few details about their novel, like its genre and a brief synopsis. Also your novel has to have a minimum word count of 50,000 words. The best part is that there are no restrictions on the type of genre
you want to experiment with. You can even write in any language you want! Moreover, anybody above the age of thirteen is eligible for the competition.
In case you’re worried about experiencing writer’s block, the website also offers useful tips, local meetings in different parts of world that participants can attend and even an online community to keep up your morale during those solitary writing hours. So, quickly register
yourself and get your creative juices flowing.
