Striking a fine balance
It is not uncommon to come across people who do jobs that have nothing to do with their academic degree. Vivek Bhaskar, who nurtured a deep passion for acting debuted in the film Parrakum Thalika as a villain, did some modeling and commercial ads before setting off to Pune to pursue his law degree. Later, in a complete change of tracks, he joined the shipping industry.
Vivek set off to Dubai in pursuit of his shipping job, thus having to keep at bay his tinsel town dreams. But he found a way, “Though I could not act in films I was very active in the cultural activities in Dubai; so I got to indulge my creative side!” As luck would have it, Vivek got a job in Kochi bringing alive his dreams of donning the grease paint again. A role in Aashiq Abu’s Rani Padmini came calling and he says, “Aashiq stays in my same flat complex and is a friend which is how I got the role. I play a rally driver by the name of Rana Shergill and the role was exciting both personally and professionally. We set off from Jispa driving to Leh to Ladakh and it was an adventurous journey. I drove the car myself and admittedly it was dangerous because most of the times there were no roads but only stony terrain. The backup drivers and the complete professionalism and homework of the production team ensured that there were no mishaps at all. It was like my dream come true to work with Aashiq and his team.”
From the hilly terrains of Leh, Vivek will soon be taking a leap into the waters of Lakshwadeep. He will be seen as a Naval Officer in the upcoming film Anarkali. Speaking about the role he says, “I have some scenes with Kabir Bedi, Prithviraj and Biju Menon and I also get a chance to do a bit of comedy.” He was also a part of the recently released Lord Livingstone 7000 Kandi. Meanwhile, Vivek is continuing his job in the shipping industry but has film offers coming his way including a Tamil project. Happy at the way he is able to balance his passion and profession, Vivek states, “Though I studied law, I do not intend to practise it; films and shipping are my areas of interest!”
