Mirash Bichu’s music album, Colours of Love, merges poetry, dialogue and music

Mirash Bichu, who was an assistant director to Amal Neerad in Anchu Sundarikal, has come out with a unique initiative that merges poetry, dialogue and music to create the music album, Colours of Love, which is gaining rave reviews from the film industry. “The idea behind the album was to send out a message that no one should be forced into marrying someone they don’t like. I had approached Rejimon Kappaparambil, the producer of the state award-winning film My Life Partner, for this project and when he saw my 50-second video I had made with an expense of Rs 1,000, he was intrigued.”
He wanted to know more about how we could do a project in such a small budget and that’s how we decided to collaborate. It was shot using a 5D camera in seven days with a crew of four people, excluding the actors. The total cost for the project was Rs 70, 000,” explains Mirash.
Explaining the shooting process, he says, “The shoot was fun. Instead of seeking out professional actors, we just headed out to the roads and used whoever was willing to do a role in the project. For example, we met the bikers in the video during the shoot, and they readily agreed to act. Similarly, the person who played the role of the father in the video is someone we chanced upon the road. We saw him with a Jaguar and asked him if he would be ready to do a short role along with his car. He agreed and ended up taking us to his house, where his son also agreed to act and we also got to use his home as a shooting location. The students who acted in the scene where we show Assumption College were also identified on spot.”
“Even when we were approaching resorts to shoot some of the scenes, we didn’t have to pay anything. They agreed to let us shoot in the space in exchange for us photographing their resorts for their website. So it was a very interactive and impromptu way of shooting for us.”
He adds, “A major part of a film’s expense comes from creating settings to limit the shooting time. For example, in my first project as an assistant, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish, the early morning scenes were created artificially. We, on the other hand, used only a single light for the whole shoot and shot natural footages for the album. What feels great is the amount of appreciation we have been receiving for the project. Santhosh Shivan, Tamil actor Aadhi, Reenu Mathews, Anupama Parameswaran, Stephen Devassy, Suchithra, actor Madhavan, director Salam Bappu have all responded positively to the video. In fact, actor Aadhi has invited us to meet him to discuss a feature film’s script after he saw the video! We are also planning another project Prem Naseer Thettidharikkaruth please in April.”
