Singletons in namma ooru share their special plans on how they hope to spend this festival away from home
If you’re single in the city, you’re probably living it up and loving it! But then there are special occasions like birthdays and festivals when one feels like celebrating with loved ones. Singles in the city are bringing in the Diwali flavour on their own with an agenda of fun and masti, as they’re not able to get together with their families.
Single, footloose and fancy free by nature, Ranjini Nambiar, who’s a travel junkie admits, “Being here alone depresses me with all friends spending time with their families during festivals. So, this Diwali I was taken by surprise when my best friend sent me a flight ticket to come and meet her in Bahrain. I’m flying off on the Diwali day on 11th for four days. I hope to have the best Diwali of my life there.
But before I fly off, I will be partying with a few friends on 10th night. They’ve invited me for a Diwali bash at their place which has an underground discotheque and the works.” For most of them it’s trying to get over that dumped in the deep lonely feeling, but for many others, it’s making the most of being single. Neha Racca, a yoga teacher, who is single and based in the city says, “My parents live in Gujarat, but I have a big circle of friends here. Also, my yoga students get sweets and we celebrate after our yoga class.”
A party planner who runs an expat club, Viren Khanna is another single boy in the city, but he isn’t one to be home alone on a festival. He says, “My parents live in Delhi and I do miss them during festivals. Sometimes I go and spend time with them during festivals, but this Diwali, I’m catching up with other singles in the city. There are many people away from their home town and we’re having a Diwali party of our own for all the singles who can mingle with each other and soak in all the festivities.”
