CBSE ‘school houses’ to vie for Swachh drive honours

Students have been asked to come up with a five-point checklist

KOCHI: At a time when having an adequate number of toilets in schools corresponding to the strength of students and their cleanliness leave a lot to be desired, the CBSE has taken the Swachh Bharat campaign to affiliated schools.

The School Swachhta Campaign asks students to focus on themes like personal cleanliness and health, clean surroundings including toilets, drinking water and food. Students have been asked to come up with a five-point checklist on the school premises, how they should use them and practice good personal hygiene.

The premises are to be divided and allotted house-wise for supervision in rotation throughout the year. Volunteers from each class called the Swachhta Monitors have to take turns house-wise to visit classes periodically to share information about maintaining the neatness and cleanliness and personal hygiene.

Swachhta Monitors are to be given full credit for their work in their Formative Assessment. The CBSE has asked the schools to award the best house with a Swachhta House prize/trophy at the end of the academic session.

Students have been asked to brainstorm and come up with ideas to decorate all the school walls and toilets with lovely artworks and useful messages about the importance of hygiene and sanitation.

School heads should ensure that toilets are in working order, and otherwise necessary maintenance work is to be done within 15 days. The Board asked schools to send reports along with photographs to CBSE regarding the campaign.
