Thiruvananthapuram: New councillors on a mission
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Though the governing council of Thiruvana-nthapuram Corporation is only expected to be in place by next week, many of the newly elected young councillors have already started preparing strategies for the development of their respective areas.
Stefy George of UDF, Remya Ramesh of BJP and LDF’s Vidhyamohan from Thycaud are all raring to go. UDF’s Stefy George who retained Kesavadasapu-ram said her first priority was to construct better roads and drainage system in Lakshmi Nagar and adjoining areas.
As a member of Seva Dal she will continue her work in Vyomitharm project. “There are many places like Chaithanya Nagar where drinking water facility has not yet reached is also on priority list,” she said.
BJP’s young councillor Remya Ramesh who represents Pattom ward belongs to economically weaker section and unde-rstands the problems of the poor.
“The area where my house is located gets flooded during monsoon and most houses including mine get submerged. I will try to sort out this problem,” she added.
LDF which is the single largest group in the new corporation, has many new faces. Vidhya Mohan from Thycaud ward who completed her M.Sc studies and waiting for NET exam, said she would focus on issues like drinking water and improving the condition of schools to check drop out rate.
Most young councillors claim that they have elicited response of the local residents in many areas.
Health facilities, ayurveda health centres, condition of roads, streetlights, drinking water issues and waste disposal system are some of the common issues that the newly elected councillors are gearing up to tackle .
