Parul Yadav is doing exceedingly well and has several plum projects lined up
She’s had a dream run at the box office for the past two years featuring in back-to-back big ticket projects. The Sandalwood industry has fallen in love with this Pyarge Agbitaithe girl Parul Yadav. After Uppi2 and the recent hit Aatagara, she is back with Ram Gopal Varma’s most awaited multilingual project Killing Veerappan followed by her favourite director Pawan Wadeyar’s Jessie. The actress speaks to Bengaluru Chronicle about her recent successes, expectations from her upcoming releases, and much more.
“After a great year, I am glad that I am wrapping it up with the most-awaited film in my career — Killing Veerappan which will be followed by another promising film by Pawan Wadeyar, Jessie. Both the films are very important stepping stones in my career. One of my career aspirations, to work under the versatile director Ram Gopal Varma, just got fulfilled too. Most of all, I am acting alongside Dr Shivarajkumar. I had been trying to work with him for the past three years but unfortunately things were not materialising. It has been such a wonderful experience working with such huge talents. Killing Veerappan is my first non-fictional film. I play a real life character and in Jessie, for the first I have been cast as a solo heroine in my favourite genre — romance,” says Parul.
Recalling her experience working with RGV and Shivanna, the model-turned-actress who made it big after a stint on the small screen, with plum roles in Kollywood working with Dhanush, and Malayalam and finally falling in love with Sandalwood, Parul says, “It was great working for a film where RGV had done such extensive research for almost a decade. There was nothing left for us to prepare for, as RGV had done all the groundwork on the subject. He would make us sit, and then narrate the script in such a precise manner that we would enter the lives of the characters, instead of just working on roles. I did not do any rote learning. After listening to his narration, my entire take on the slain forest brigand changed. Several leading directors have asked me about the project — what new aspects emerge as there are already scores of films made on him. The film is clearly about the operation that finally hunts him down. It took almost two decades to kill him,” explains Parul.
About her character, Parul adds, “I essay a real life person in this true story. The girl played a huge role but was rarely known to the outside world which has thankfully helped me hone by own mannerisms. We shot in remote areas of the forest, and it was such an adventure.”
Parul, had infact signed on for Jessie before Killing Veerappan happened. “I signed Jessie first and suddenly Killing Veerappan happened. In Jessie, I play a solo heroine. So far, I have been fortunately or unfortunately casted in multistar projects. I have been lucky to portray roles which were performance driven, and here too, I am doing what I my heart desires, being a romantic person. My all-time favourite movies are DDLJ, Maine Pyar Kiya and Jessie is a complete romantic film,” she adds.
With back-to-back Kannada projects, the actress has managed to learn the language, but at times she restrains from speaking it in public as she feels her broken Kannada might give out the wrong impression. “I can understand the language but speaking is a slight problem as sometimes my words give out different meanings,” she smiles.
Parul feels she had been missing out on her fitness regimen as shooting has been continuous, “I have been cribbing to both my directors that I am missing out on exercise. But I do go on long walks to compensate for the lack of exercise.”
