Heavy rain brings normal life to halt in Nellore district

Over 2,000 people residing in low-lying areas in sea prone mandals were shifted

Nellore: Rain inundated several thousand acres of paddy and horticulture crops in Nellore district. Road connectivity was cut off to several villages due to overflowing rain water on roads and bridges.

Penna, Swarnamukhi,Kalangi, Kaivalya Rivers and several streams were overflowing in the district due to heavy rains. However, no loss of life has been reported so far.

Twenty villages were marooned in the district. Over 2,000 people residing in low-lying areas in sea prone mandals were shifted to safer places as a precautionary measure. The service road on Nellore-Mumbai highway was breached at Attalur village. Three persons caught in swirling waters were rescued by revenue and police teams in Pellakur mandal.

As many as 70 agricultural workers were stuck in flood waters in fields in Vedurupattu under Doravarisatram mandal.

Flood water from the Kalangi River entered a tank which overflowed and inundated agricultural fields. The workers stuck in the flood water were rescued by revenue and police teams with the help of machine boats. Rain water was flowing over the railway track at Vendodu-Kondagunta villages.
