House scam: Brokers demand Rs 3 lakh for CM’s quota flats
Hyderabad: There is a mad rush to bag the 2BHK flats built for the poor at IDH Colony. People are willing to pay up to '3 lakh to anyone who will help them get the flats. This is being exploited by brokers and politicians.
There is a 5 to 10 per cent CM’s quota for 2BHK houses in each constituency — depe-nding on the number of houses built — which brokers are promising to provide with the help of ministers and MLAs, if they pay 50 per cent of the cost of the house.
Even in IDH Colony, which Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao inaugurated on Monday, out of the 396 flats built, 10 have been kept vacant under the CM’s quota while the rest have been allotted to beneficiaries. There is now a huge rush to bag these 10 flats and people are approaching brokers who claim to have “close contacts” with ministers and MLAs.
The modus operandi being adopted by brokers in the city is to target the frustrated applicants who are approaching the collectorate and GHMC circle offices for applications seeking houses.
As officials are sending them back empty-handed, the brokers are luring these people with the “CM’s quota,” saying that if the application is forwarded through them, it would directly go to the minister or MLA concerned and a house would be allotted at the earliest.
The applicants are told that they would have to pay up to Rs 3 lakh to secure a flat worth Rs 9.50 lakh. Applicants are also asked to club two families as there are two bedrooms in each flat so that their burden halves.
However, city minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav said the CM’s quota is meant only for the poor and the question of allotting it to others did not arise.
"The CM's quota is meant to do justice to bonafide applicants who may be missing from the original beneficiaries' list due to various reasons. When the CM tours the constituencies, instances of such applicants approaching him over non-allocation of houses are quite common. After verification, houses under the CM's quota will be allotted to them. We request applicants not to fall prey to brokers who promise flats, and instead complain to the government or the police against them," Mr Yadav said.
Housing minister A. Indrakaran Reddy said, "The allotments under the CM's quota will be made in a very transparent manner after thorough verification by collectors. There is no scope for irregularities in the 2BHK housing scheme as the CM is very keen that the benefit reaches only the poor and needy."
