Rahul Gandhi’s ‘angel’ is now block president
Remya Haridas was recognised by Rahul Gandhi recently
KOZHIKODE: After working for the welfare of tribal people in and around the state for the last one decade, 29 year-old Remya Haridas from the scheduled caste, who was once recognised by Rahul Gandhi himself for her deep understanding of the Congress party’s ideology and its functioning, was sworn in the block panchayat president of Kunnamangalam.
It was as part of the Youth Congress led by Rahul Gandhi’s decision to bring transformation in the internal structure of the Youth Congress that Remya got the opportunity to represent UDF in the local body election.
In 2007, Remya was the only one to represent the state to deliver her thoughts and views on the development of the country and the role of the Congress party in it, which was highly appreciated by Rahul Gandhi and she later made her way into the brigade of youngsters, led by Rahul Gandhi.
Also the state award winner for best social activists and one of the four representatives of the country to attend the International youth conference held in Japan during 2011, Remya was active in the Congress party since her high school education.
“Working among tribal people for many years, what I have understood is the urgent development of their community. This responsibility will be a lesson for me to learn more about nation building and help them come out of their troubles,” she said.
