‘Yatra’ for Hindu party begins today

Preparations were in full swing in Kasargod on Sunday as Vellapally reached the town with his entourage

KASARGOD: SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellapally Natesan is all set to begin his historic 'Samathwa Munnetta Yatra' from Kasargod to Thiruvananthapuram on Monday.

The much-hyped yatra is the first concrete step towards the formation of a Hindu party by the SNDP leader with the blessings of the Sangh Parivar.

Preparations were in full swing in Kasargod on Sunday as Vellapally reached the town with his entourage.

NSS leader G. Sukumaran Nair is the only one not cooperating with the yatra, Vellapally told reporters here on Sunday. "All other prominent leaders of Hindu organisations have reached here to take part in the yatra," Vellapally told reporters.

Nair is on a slippery ground as members of the community are supporting the initiative for the unity of the majority community, he added.

Vellapally is expected to announce the formation of a new political party at the culmination of the yatra in Thiruvananthapuram on December 5. "The new political outfit is not that of the SNDP. It is of the Hindu community," he said.

P. Gopalan Kutty, head of the RSS unit in Kerala, meanwhile, welcomed the yatra and described it as a 'good omen'. He said the RSS and Vellapally have similar views on Hindu unity.

At the same time, Leader of the Opposition V. S. Achuthanandan continued his attacks against the SNDP leader. Talking to reporters in Thiruvananthapuram, Achuthanandan said Vellapally has opted for the saffron robe of the RSS and abandoned the robe of Sree Narayana Guru.
