Adilabad district: ‘0’ drought mandals angers distressed
Adilabad: The ‘drought’ in selection of drought-hit mandals affected the distressed farmers of Adilabad district after they had experienced ill-effects of the prolonged drought conditions.
The criteria for declaring drought mandals angered the farmers. No mandal out of total 52 from the district were included in the list of drought-hit mandals submitted to the Central government by the state government.
Farmers are up in arms against the state government for not declaring a single mandal as drought-hit and they are losing chance to get compensation for the damaged crop.
The area of cultivation considered as criteria for selection of drought mandals instead percentage of rainfall and this goes against the interests of the distressed farmers of the district. The state government came to a concluded in its report that there was a sufficient rainfall for crops these season in Adilabad district.
