I don’t sign all the films that come my way: Sibiraj
Sibiraj speaks to DC about doing multi-starrers and how he doesn’t want to be typecast
Actor Sibiraj, whose last outing was Naaigal Jaakiradhai, is a happy man these days. With Pokkiriraja (which also has Jiiva as one of the leads) and Jackson Durai in his kitty, he’s confident that Pokkiriraja will hit the jackpot for him.
“The script has believable fantasy elements in it. When director Ramprakash Rayappa of Tamizhuku En Ondrai Azhuthavum fame approached me, I liked the script, which made me say ‘yes’ to it despite the film having two heroes. I have tried my hand in comedy as well. I think the story is the hero. Nobody is anybody’s competitor. I do what the script demands, and the director knows that. This film will have a fresh approach to the script, like his previous film did. Films that have two heroes have proved to be good in their own way. The team shot extensively in Chennai and Puducherry and may be ready for a Pongal release,” he tells us. Sibi also has Jackson Durai for release, which has been scheduled on December 7.
He adds, “I didn’t want to do any horror film, because everybody else is doing it. But Jackson Durai is different. The story begins from the British era and travels to the present day. This film will keep the audiences engaged throughout and will also convey a message at the end. I play a cop, and appa (Sathyaraj) plays a ghost in it. Though he’s a rationalist, he was convinced with the script. Initially, he refused to play the role butwhen the director assured him that he would have his fair share of nayyandi in the film, he accepted to be a part of it.” We ask him that in his earlier film Naaigal Jakkirathai too, he played a cop.
In a lighter vein, Sibi chuckles, “In that film I had to act with a naai (dog), but in this one (Jackson Durai) with a pei (ghost),” and adds that the cop is not too serious as the entire story itself has been narrated in such a tone. So, future plans? “Instead of doing many films in the same genre, I would rather wait and see how it works. I don’t sign all the films that come my way. I don’t want to be typecast. To this date, when I listen to the story and I like it, I take my dad’s opinion. If he likes it too, we both sit with the director and discuss to proceed further. This has been the case till the latest movie,” he concludes.
