Chandrababu Naidu’s call to control rents
Auditors feel that there should be change in laws to bring a new Act
Vijayawada: The abnormal increase in rents in Vijayawada city has come to the notice of the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and he has expressed his displeasure on the situation by comparing it with Mumbai. After his statement, citizens are demanding that the government control rents by using special Acts.
NGO leaders and taxpayers too are demanding that the government control rents by implementing various mechanisms with the cooperation of local VMC authority, which is dealing in tax collection.
The rent of a triple bedroom flat is between Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000 in various important areas. Likewise, double bed room flat rents are from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000. Earlier, triple bedroom flat rent was Rs 15,000 in various prime areas in city. But now the rents have jumped abnormally following publicity over shifting of employees.
In this backdrop, the CM expressed his displeasure over increasing rents and requested house owners to take lesser amounts. Tax Payers Association president V. Sambi Reddy said that the government should decentralise the offices to various areas in city. Then the city would not face any burden, he added. He said that the government could not control rent hike with the Rent Control Act.
AP NGO leader P. Rajesh said that the government should impose new rules on increasing rents. He said that all the owners of buildings should pay taxes based on rents also but they were not paying any amount on this. Noted auditor V. Rami Reddy said that the government could introduce a new Act for controlling rents. But the available laws must be changed for introducing the new Act. Ch Ravi, employee in a private company, said that not only employees but middle class people were facing the problem.
