Only 100 families linked to mobile app so far, say cops

KOTTAYAM: The “Manarcaud police app” project introduced by the Manarcaud police to speed up crime detection has not made much progress ever since it was launched by Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on August 28.
The project was meant to get the cooperation of the public in tracking crimes. They were supposed to send pictures, videos and messages of the crimes taking place in their areas through the mobile app to the station house officer and a few other officers, who would take follow-up action, including registering of cases. Some 3,000 members of families coming under the jurisdiction of Manar-caud police were to be brought under the scheme, but only 100 members have joined it so far.
“The project has not clicked as we anticipated and we could link only 100 families in it. This is because we could not contact the people in their homes with our GPS facility to pursue the clues for taking up the complaints,” S. Pradeep, sub-inspector of Manarcaud police station, told DC. Many requests came from other police station limits which were not accepted, he said.
