Sangram Singh turns down Aamir’s offer to star in ‘Dangal’

The wrestling champ didn’t want to play a ‘loser’ on-screen

Mumbai: It is not too often that we hear of our Bollywood superstars send out special requests to people to star in their film. That said, it is even more unusual for those people to turn the role down. But never say never in Bollywood.

According to reports on Saturday, Aamir Khan, who is working on his next film ‘Dangal’, asked Indian wrestling champ Sangram Singh, to be a part of the film. Although Singh has the ‘highest regard’ for the actor and was ‘happy’ with the offer, her backed out. Reports state that real life wrestling star was not willing to go down in a fight with the reel wrestler, and be seen as a ‘loser’.
Singh alleges that he didn’t opt out because his ego got in the way, but because he was ‘preserving the dignity and respect’ that India has given him. The star didn’t want to disappoint his fans and loose a fight, just to star opposite Aamir.
Aamir picked the wrestler as he thought having him on board, would make the final fight scene look a little more ‘real’. ‘Dangal’ is set to hit theatre screens in December next year.
