Assam Temple committee slams Rahul Gandhi’s claim of denial of entrance in the temple
Guwahati: The controversy over Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, who is alleged to have changed his plan to visit the revered seat of 16th century Vaish-navite culture — Barpeta Satra, took a new turn with Mr Gandhi claiming that he was stopped from entering a temple by RSS and BJP.
Pointing out that the devotees of Satra was waiting for Mr Gandhi, the members of the management committee of Satra clarified that there are people in the committee who may be opposed to the idea of allowing Mr Gandhi to visit Satra but there was no decision of the temple committee to stop him.
In what was denied by the members of the temple committee, Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday alleged that BJP and RSS had conspired to not allow Mr Gandhi to enter Barpeta Satra on Saturday.
Assam BJP quickly reacted as former minister and BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday accused Mr Gandhi of defaming Assam and its culture by making false allegation on Satras of being invaded by RSS and BJP.
