Hyderabad: Leaders of the Congress, TD and BJP on Monday met Chief Election Commissioner Syed Nasim Ahmad Zaidi in Delhi separately and lodged complaints over various deficiencies and blunders committed by GHMC election authorities in preparation of electoral rolls and deletion of duplicate voters for the forthcoming polls.
The Opposition leaders sought the EC’s intervention immediately, before the authorities rushed with the election notification. They brought to the notice of the EC that several glaring errors took place while determining the BC voters, and cited the case of Jubilee Hills TD MLA Maganti Gopinath, who is from the Kamma caste (OC), but he, along with his family members, have been shown as BC voters.
According to Congress leader Marri Sashidhar Reddy, Mr Zaidi took the matter seriously. When the leaders complained that the GHMC election authorities circumvented the Supreme Court orders on obtaining voters list with Aadhaar linkage, Mr Zaidi assured them that he would seek a report.
The leaders alleged that a new dimension has been introduced into preparation of the Electoral Rolls by the Hyderabad district election officer, with a ‘duplicate electoral list’ of 7.9 lakh voters sent to all 24 Election returning officers in Hyderabad. They said that the list was fraudulently derived out of the Aadhaar seeding exercise that was suspended by the EC following Supreme Court orders in August.
The initial deletion of 6.39 lakh voters and subsequent deletion of 7.9 lakh voters is part of a larger game plan to keep a section of voters away from the polls, the leaders complained.
