LDF to organise state-wide stir from December 20

State has acquired debts worth Rs 1,59,000 crore

Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition LDF has decided to organise state-wide campaign against the Centre and the state government from December 20 to 23 highlighting a host of issues including corruption, maladministration, corruption, price rise and growing communalism.

The campaign meetings will be held in each Assembly segment, LDF Convenor Vaikom Viswan told reporters after their state committee meeting here on Wednesday. Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan will inaugurate the campaign here on December 22.

The LDF will also launch an agitation by organising the rubber farmers against the crash in prices of rubber. The opposition held the state and the central government responsible for the fall in prices of rubber. At one time rubber was Rs 248 pe kg but owing to the wrong policies it has now slumped to Rs 90.

The LDF accused the UDF Government of failing to counter effectively the attempts being made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sangh Parivar to divide the people on religious lines. “The BJP government at the Centre is functioning like the spokesman of majority communalism. But back home the chief minister and his government are not showing any conviction in fighting their designs," the LDF convenor said.

Under this government the state has acquired debts worth Rs 1,59,000 crore. It is happening at a time when the government has failed to clear even pension dues. The state government and the Centre are on the same page on neo liberal policies which are responsible for the rising prices of essential commodities.

LDF accused the government of failing to intervene in the market effectively to control the rising prices. They are only active in corruption, it alleged.
