Star on the Horizon

“I just entered college when I debuted in films. My parents are very particular about education and asked me to complete my graduation. So I took a break for two years, completed my studies and then came back to films.” After that, many films happened for Reshmi. She was noted for her performance in Kirumi. “Usually one can see rosy-bubbly heroines in Tamil. But Kirumi director asked me to maintain a normal look in the film. It is an honest movie. Usually, everyone will choose a safe role during the beginning of their career.”

Reshmi is one of the few new-gen actors who are brave enough to speak their mind. “I don’t want to be known as a heroine, but rather become an actor who knows to act. I love acting and the whole concept of it. These days people are welcoming different films. You need to stay updated about all the things.”

Speaking more about her recently-released Urumeen, she says, “It is an interesting revenge story with powerful characters played by Bobby and Kalaiyarasan. There is a lot of energy. It is an interesting film and I am happy to be a part of the film.” When quizzed about her engagement to Bobby, Reshmi says, “We got engaged in the presence of our family. The wedding will be happening some time next year. It is a very personal affair. Bobby is a very good person, honest and down-to-earth. He is very frank. It is very difficult to see such honest people these days. We were friends. But later we fell in love and decided to be together for the rest of our lives.”

Born at Palakkad and brought up in Chennai, Reshmi is eagerly waiting to act in Malayalam. “I would love to do Malayalam films. Good scripts are coming up these days in Malayalam. I don’t have many contacts in Mollywood, but I hope some director will cast me soon,” she says with a wink. “Mounaragam is one of my favourite films. I always loved Revathi ma’am and Nadiya Moidu ma’am. They are brilliant performers.” Opening up more about the new-wave in Indian cinema, Reshmi opines, “Before, films were only entertaining. There was nothing to do with reality. But later on people started opening up to world cinema and started thinking why such movies are not made in India.” “Healthy and real films are coming up. But I still prefer commercial films. Movies should be entertaining but at the same time shouldn’t be dumb. It should be sensible.”
