Lyricists condemn Anirudh, Simbu’s ‘irresponsible act’
Chennai: With ‘Beep’ song triggering more controversy, in a joint statement, 27 noted Tamil poets and lyricists, including Pulamaipitthan, Muthulingam, Snehan, Pa Vijay, Ilayabharathy, Jeeva and Yosi, condemned the “irresponsible act” of Simbu and Anirudh which is atrocious at a time when people of Tamil Nadu are under depression due to the recent deluge.
They said, “It is our duty to register our feelings towards the said song which demeans women. Cinema is a powerful medium where whatever said reaches fast and rapidly. So, as a creator we have to be careful and responsible with our content and lyrics. And it is all the more critical when children who hear the song become curious to know about the beeped out words”
Furious Ilayaraja shoots back: Eminent music composer Ilayaraja’s furious behavior at a TV scribe when the latter asked for his views about the controversial ‘Beep’ song has gone viral on social network media.
Various journalist bodies have condemned Ilayaraja for verbally abusing a reporter in Chennai. At a recent event to honor those who had helped Chennai flood victims, the composer met the media.
A television channel reporter asked his opinion on the talk of the town ‘Beep’ song. Instead of replying, he became furious and asked him back, “Do you have any sense? You answer me first! Are we here for that issue? Why do you ask such questions to me?” Many journalist associations, including Chennai Union of Journalists and Pondicherry Journalists’ Association have condemned composer Ilayaraja, saying the TV reporter just did his duty.
