The government that didn’t look before it leapt?
Sources said Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa could keep the motion on hold.
Bengaluru: Has the state government found the perfect cover to wriggle out of the controversial move to oust Upa Lokayukta Justice Subhash Adi?
With the evidence just not clinching enough to nail Justice Adi-something Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa has already said time and again- the government is reportedly keen to avoid the embarrassment if it is unable to substantiate the charges against Justice Adi, after moving the motion in the Legislative Assembly for his removal. Curiously, law minister T.B. Jayachandra stated that the motion for Adi’s removal was not adopted by the Assembly. But official sources, say that the government is in a corner because the motion was admitted and therefore cannot be altered or expunged.
Sources said Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa could keep the motion on hold on grounds that documents to support allegations of misconduct or incapacity, sought from the Lokayukta, had not reached him.
The Speaker has already admitted that insufficient evidence was given to him by ruling party legislators and therefore it would be difficult for him to forward the motion to Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court to order a probe against Justice Adi.
