English and Foreign Languages University squabbles with University of Hyderabad for land

The Union ministry of HRD has sought 200 acres for Eflu within the UoH campus.

Hyderabad: There is an ongoing tussle for land in the city between two central universities, University of Hyderabad and the English and Foreign Languages University. The Union ministry of human resource development has sought 200 acres for Eflu within the UoH campus. Eflu currently operates from the Osmania University campus. The 20-acre site was leased out to Eflu to Osmania University. Eflu wants to move out of this campus citing need for more land for expansion and set up a new campus on 200 acre.
But UoH has been refusing to allot any land saying that its campus has shrunk from 2,500 acres to 800 acres over the years due to allotments made to various institutions. The varsity has argued that it needs the existing vacant land to meet future expansion needs. However, UoH does not own this land. The UMHRD is now seeking the help of the Telangana government to allot UoH land for Eflu. Though UoH had made several representations to the state governments to transfer ownership of the land to the university, successive governments had failed to do so.
The YSR government in undivided AP had allotted land for Eflu at Pochampally, Nalgonda district, but the university rejected it saying that it was too far from the city. The university then requested UMHRD to convince UoH to allot 200 acre in its Gachibowli campus. UoH officials last week discussed the issue and passed a unanimous resolution not to allot land for Eflu on its campus.
