Thiruvananthapuram: Former cop’s son goes on rampage

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: High drama prevailed in Plamoodu and Kuravankonam areas as the son of a retired IPS officer evaded arrest two times putting lives of citizens in danger.
The accused was identified as Nikhil Balachandran, 30, son of retired Kollam rural police chief K.B. Balachandran. On seeing police, the man accused in several cases reversed his SUV at a high speed mowing down several vehicles on the one way stretch between Plamoodu and Pattom.
He once again escaped police by fleeing from his home at Kuravankonam by bending the grills.
“Mr Balachandran has been accused in three cases including attempt to murder and outraging modesty of two women. He had gone to RBI colony with a sword and threatened a person and had also bashed another engineering student. We had intercepted him at Plamoodu area based on information that he is in the city,” an officer attached to museum police station said.
The accused, on seeing a patrol party, reversed the vehicle hitting several vehicles and fled. The vehicle was later recovered from near All saints College.
“We again sent a small patrol party after we heard he has locked himself inside home. As we tried to storm in, he took a sword and threatened to kill himself and his mother,” police officials said.
