Karnataka: Lokayukta’s back! Raids yield assets worth Rs 8 crore

The Lokayukta police conducted simultaneous raids in Bengaluru and several districts.

BENGALURU: The state’s anti-corruption agency, which was not very active over the last few months after an extortion racket was exposed within the Lokayukta, has again started cracking down on government officials.

Lokayuka police officials, who raided Deputy Commissioner of Excise, Vigilance squad, Bharathesh, and Senior Motor Vehicle Inspector at Jayanagar RTO, M. Jayaram on Monday and unearthed disproportionate assets worth Rs 1.86 crores, again raided the houses of eight government officials, including former Minister G. Janardhana Reddy, on Tuesday.

During the raids, disproportionate assets worth Rs 8 crore were unearthed. The Lokayukta police said that FIRs were registered against the eight government servants for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to their income.

“The Lokayukta police conducted simultaneous raids in Bengaluru, Bidar, Vijayapura, Kalaburagi, Kolar, Mysuru, Raichur and Tumakuru districts in places belonging to the accused government officials. Assets unearthed include sites, buildings, apartments, agriculture lands, bank accounts, gold ornaments, vehicles and other valuables. “Further investigations are being carried out in these cases,” the police said.

Officials in the dock are: Rajashekar Bramhapure, Junior Engineer, Rural Water Supply & Sanitation Sub-Division, Bidar, Hanumanth Madivallappa Sarawad, Junior Engineer, Rural Drinking water & Sanitation sub-division, Vijayapura, Subbarao Subedar, PA to President, Kalaburagi Development Authority, Kalaburagi, B.K. Prasanna Kumar, Assistant Engineer, Panchayath Raj Engineering Sub division, Bangarpet, Kolar, H.S. Varadarajan, Deputy Director (Admin), Karnataka Fire and Emergency Services, Bengaluru, Abdul Rashid, Assistant Executive Engineer, Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Ltd, Raichur, Venkatesh, Administrative Officer, Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Ltd, Bengaluru, Janardhana Reddy, former Minister.
