Thiruvananthapuram: The fees of students who have shifted from government- controlled self-financing engineering colleges to national-level institutions like NITs, CUSAT and IITs after the final round of allotments to self –financing colleges have not been refunded. But the students who shifted to government engineering colleges in the state before the deadline for engineering admissions have got back their fees.
While admissions to NITs, CUSAT and IITs are from the national entrance examinations, the admissions to engineering colleges in the state are from the entrance examinations conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE).
This is contrary to the earlier decision of the government not to seek liquidated damages from students who shifted out from government-controlled colleges before the deadline of admissions. Sources in the CEE office said that the refund could not be given in the absence of a government order. The money is now in the account of the CEE.
The normal procedure is to transfer the fee amount from the CEE office to the account of the individual colleges after the entire admission process is completed.
However, the CEE has only transferred the fee of students who continue to study in these colleges to the account of the respective colleges. The fees of students who had already got transfer certificates and moved to other colleges remain with the office of the CEE.
