Mumbai: After the protests from Bajrang Dal and VHP activists, ‘Diwale’ screenings were disrupted but the theatre owners have decided to now resume the screenings.
The Hindu outfits had stalled the screening of the movie in protest against Shah Rukh Khan’s comment on growing religious intolerance in the country from December 20, 2015. The theatre managements had banned the screening of the movie fearing attack from the Hindu activists. Despite of the assurance from the police, the theatre owners were not ready to take a risk. The new decision from the management came after the police department offered total security.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Shantharaju has ensured enough security measures at the theatres for the smooth screening of the movie. City-based social activist Vidya Dinker had filed a complaint with the police demanding action against the Bajrang Dal activists who forcibly stopped the screening of the movie in theatres. She had later received murder and rape threats on the Facebook.
The Co-convenor of Bajrang Dal Puneet Raj Kottari, the prime accused in the case, was arrested in this connection on December 26. Dinker welcomed the decision of the theatre owners and said she would continue her fight against fundamentalists.
