Metal heads for humanity
It is pretty uncommon to see a metal outfit talk about humanity and humanitarian concerns.
It is pretty uncommon to see a metal outfit talk about humanity and humanitarian concerns and it is even more surprising to see a metal band living it up to the things they believe in. Enter De’SaT, An experimental Progressive Metal band from Bengaluru that has already created waves in the underground scene with their blend of Carnatic, thrash, garage and grind-core elements making their music a sonic journey on the wings of good old metal. With a plethora of musical influences, De’SaT has played a lot of gigs around the country and released an inspiring music video for their track This is my India.
The band describes themselves as a ‘Humanitarian band trying not only to save our future but also to save our race,’ and the bass guitarist, Nithin agrees to it whole heartedly. “The humanitarian aspect to our music comes from our lyrics with deals with the crisis we experience each day.” Says Nithin, and adds, “Impious Jihad talks about the chaos religious fanatics bring in the name of religion- be it any, and this is an issue we are all concerned about. Guardian Riots is about the people who are supposed to protect you but are misguiding you from the beginning and putting you in trouble. In all these cases the human element that are there within us are upheld and also encouraged and thus the proclamation.”
As a band De’SaT collaborates with a lot of artists from different genres of music to bring both the elder and the younger crowd into a age friendly mosh-pit. After releasing their debut EP— When the world stopped turning, De’SaT is ready with some new material for their debut album set to be released early next year. The band is currently working on their new single Nostalgia and is producing a music video for the same. At the gig in Chennai, De’SaT is all set to churn out some of their old numbers along with some covers. “We usually never plan the set-list. We look at the crowd and decide the set-list and again, it might change according to the mood of the crowd. We have a lot of friends in Chennai who have asked us to play some covers, so we have some covers along with a couple of brand new tracks which we haven’t named yet” he laughs.
De’SaT is Avinash on the vocals, Victor on guitars and vocals, Naveen on guitars, Nithin on bass, Rohan on keyboard and Srikiran on drums.
