100 schools to start CBSE stream in Chennai

Chennai: With Central Board of Se­c­ondary Education (CBS­E) m­aking it clear that private matriculation schools need not to get a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the state government to start a CBSE school, about 100 schools are gearing up to start CBSE school stream on their existing campus.

One of the private matriculation school administrators, on condition of anon­ymity, said they had started preparatory work to get their school affiliated to CBSE, as the Central board had no hassles of regulation.

“Several private schools have already moved to CBSE stream as they can collect higher fees and also get out of the state’s control. In the past, we had to wait a long time to get NOC from the state government, but now, with CBSE’s new rule, we can start a school at our own pace,” said the administrator.

An academician who did not want to be named alle­g­ed that matriculation sch­o­ols start a CBSE school on the same campus and make students migrate from matriculation to CBSE str­e­am. “With students being shifted from the matriculation to CBSE, school managements try to portray as though the matriculation had minimal strength and try to close the matriculation stream,” the academician said.

A senior school education official said the matter would be taken to the government’s notice as it involves policy decision to be taken at the chief minister’s level and once the government comes up with its policy the issue would be sorted out.
