Hyderabad: For the first time, a heart transplant operation was carried out under the state government’s organ donation scheme Jeevandan.
The heart transplant was carried out from a brain dead patient, Sai Teja Nimmagadda, who had met with an accident at Lakdikapul, on November 10.
Sai Teja was rushed to a nearby hospital, but he had lost his consciousness and the CT scan showed severe damage in the brain. He was then rushed to Yashoda Hospital, but was declared brain dead on November 11.
The family agreed to donate the organs to the government’s Jeevandan scheme and his two kidneys, lungs, liver and heart were retrieved.
The heart transplant surgery was carried out in Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills.
